Common Types of Water Treatment Systems
- Filtration systems - A water filter removes impurities from water through a physical barrier
- Water softeners - This system reduces the hardness of water by removing the calcium and magnesium ions that create the hardness
- Disinfection - A physical or chemical treatment that kills microorganisms. Chlorine and chlorine dioxide are common chemical treatments while ultraviolet is a physical disinfectant. UV light can be used to kill bacteria and viruses
